"If anything can save the world, I’d put my money on beauty." - Douglas Tompkins
Last August, I decided to take a sabbatical from work. During this time, the thought of getting to my seventh continent came into fruition. Initially, I was hesitant about traveling to Antarctica. I was an independent person; solo travel was nothing new for me. But, I was hesitant about traveling to the bottom of the earth. Perhaps it was because it was so unknown. I didn't know anyone who had done it before, and my only knowledge about it consisted of reading travel blogs and a few pages of a book.
But, I was made aware of a great deal, and within 7 days, I booked it and was on a plane from Punta Arenas, Chile to St. George Base, Antarctica. That was the beauty (so much beauty!) of all of it. It was the most I’d ever spent on a trip and the least time I’d ever had to prepare for one, and it was absolutely fantastic because I had no expectations. I barely did any research beforehand, and it made the trip all the better. Is that not the beauty of travel? Being flexible and letting each experience invigorate every one of your senses.
